Through IV poles, cars and palm trees, a patient's art illustrates                                    life with cystic fibrosis

UCLA Health interviews Dylan Mortimer in a story about his life with cystic fibrosis, presenting his art work and its inclusion in the exhibit "Breath-Taking" at dnj Gallery.

Cystic Fibrosis is the first exhibition in the 'Art and Med' program beginning at dnj Gallery.

As mentioned in the press release for this exhibit, "In October 2023, Schoenberg discovered the exhibit “Art and Med” at the Torrance Art Museum, curated by Ted Meyer.  Meyer, artist-in-residence at the U.S.C. Keck School of Medicine, organizes exhibitions and discussions highlighting the health condition of a patient/artist side by side with a recognized medical professional. Meyer's efforts bridge the gap between art and medicine, providing a platform for patient voices often overlooked in traditional galleries."

"With a new desire to explore this deeper understanding and to teach through art, the mission of dnj Gallery from adjusted from solely a commercial to a space with a more charitable and educational purpose.  Believing that supplementary knowledge will help facilitate our community’s ability to aid in their own healing, the art and med program was born. Insight leads to motivation and the empowerment to rebuild and control one’s situation. She will also offer health coaching to the artists/patients during this exhibit.  In a collaboration, health goals are realized. This transformation reflects Schoenberg’s commitment to utilizing art as a tool to support individuals with chronic illnesses."

Come by to see "Breath-Taking":  a group exhibit featuring Dylan Mortimer and 17 other artists with cystic fibrosis.  The exhibit is open until June 22.
