Nicole Maloney TEDxVeniceBeach

dnj Gallery is pleased to present our good friend Nicole Maloney talking about her latest photography installation OOMO at local TEDx event Venice Beach.
Please watch the video below.

Nicole Maloney believes that our prejudices and our judgements encompass five aspects of humanity - Race, Religion, Gender, Socioeconomic Status and Sexual Orientation. Her unique approach to digital artistic installations are designed to seek out cultural understanding and peace.

Place a camera in Nicole’s hands and she will capture the truth hidden in the human soul and in the earth’s landscape. Nicole graduated with a BA in Communication Studies from UCLA in 1989 and later studied fashion at Parsons School of Design in Paris, France. After 7 years at Sony Studios, Nicole created Simul-Sports, Inc., an interactive start-up funded by Sun Microsystems. Nicole went on to create, design and produce her photographic work in her first publication entitled RARE (Daab Books, 2008) followed by two children’s books: Romeo Loves Juliet and Much Ado (2011). Nicole’s most recent installations are the OOMO Cube (oomola.com) in downtown Los Angeles and her Hello Kitty: All Stacked Up sculpture (Exploring the Super Cute World of Hello Kitty worldwide traveling exhibition 2014-2018). Nicole’s OOMO Cube was awarded LA Weekly’s Best Public Art 2014 and the President’s Award from the Japanese-American National Museum.

OOMO Cube Now Open to the Public

The OOMO Cube is now open to the public.

The OOMO Cube is a new installation at JANM (Japanese American National Museum). The OOMO cube was created by artist Nicole Maloney, who will be featuring her work at dnj Gallery later this year. This large cube is made of a series of smaller, rotating cubes. Together the smaller cubes can form one portrait of an individual who represents different races, religions, socio-economic groups, and genders.  Each face of the smaller cubes have different photographic images which can be rotated to make a new portrait. On the one side of each of these smaller cubes is a mirror, which reflects the image of the viewer and participant who is rotating the cube.

OOMO stands for 'Out Of Many One'. OOMO is a new project going up across Los Angeles. The goal of OOMO is to remind everyone that they all belong to one world, one LA, and one humanity.
